Ann,

Do you know what kind of systems that they're talking about? I can see the
value for employee access, but since the student's relationship with the DOE
continues after they separate from the university, I'm curious about the
value that DOE gets from federated access for students.

Subject: [Assurance] Assurance Biz Case: Update on DoEd

All,

DoEd is re-architecting their identity and access systems in response to
requests for simplifying access to their systems and leverage third-party
credentials.

InCommon/EDUCAUSE had a call last week with DoEd FSA (Fin Aid) about
kicking-off InCommon interoperability pilot at the end of this year with a
possible service pilot next year.

Initial discussions about LoA indicate that they will require Silver
Assurance for student access and LoA 3/two-factor for staff/Fin Aid Officer
access.

Target rollout of production application(s) is 2013.

Best,
Ann
