Hi Ken,
I'd be happy to assist and talk for a few minutes about the
barriers as we see them at UCSD. I'll make sure to be there 10-15 mins early so
we can plan. Unless you intend to, I could also mention that UCSD recently
joined a 'Shib and Libraries' Working Group composed of four campuses (Chicago,
UCSD, UMD, and Penn State), initiated and coordinated by Steve
Carmody.
I hope you don't mind, but I'm cc'ing this group
hoping that other participants might be able to join us at CNI. Will you
be there Steve?

Much of the session will be a general update on federations, but I'd like to spend some time in a discussion about the particular issues of libraries in the US and federations. Given the original use case of libraries, and the utilization overseas, it might be good to explore what's different in the US, what the perceived barriers are, and what might be paths to pursue. If you are planning to attend my session, could I ask you to talk for a few minutes about your perceptions of these issues, and the situation at UCSD? You are one of the thought, and practice, leaders in this space. Ken |
