I have the pleasure to announce that three (3) federations have progressed through the assessment of their policy and responded to the feedback by their peer federations.

These federations are:

 * Algeria/ARNaai

 * Cyprus/CIF

 * Iran/IRFED

the Algerian Research Network AAI federation (ARNaai) https://www.aai.arn.dz/ serving the constituency of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria research and education community, has written its policy document (originally based on the GrIdP document), metadata registration practice statement (based on the policy template), having developed via the CHAIN-REDs project, is declaring itself as a production federation is now seeking inclusion in eduGAIN. The Algerian Research Network has been a long time collaborator with GÉANT and its participation in the EUMEDCONNECT and AfricaConnect projects has 

the CYNET Identity Federation (CIF) http://www.cynet.ac.cy/cif/ serving the constituency of Republic of Cyprus research and education community, has written its policy document, metadata registration practice statement and is declaring itself as a production federation is now seeking inclusion in eduGAIN. CYNET is a member of GÉANT and the development of its federations is being supported by the GN4-2 Project and GRNet.

the Iranian Academic Identity Federation (IRFED) http://www.irfed.ir/ serving the constituency of Islamic Republic of Iran has written its policy document and metadata registration practice statement  and is declaring itself as a production federation is now seeking inclusion in eduGAIN. IRANet/IPM has previously been a member of TERENA and has recently met with representatives from GÉANT on improving their collaboration with the European research and education community.

These documents have been assessed by your peers and all pending issues have been resolved.

And as per section 3 of of the eduGAIN Constitution, I believe that the application by these three (3) federations meets all of the mandatory requirements for eduGAIN membership and as such now provide that information to the membership of eduGAIN to seek your confirmation via this vote:

While there are 49 eduGAIN members at this point in time - only 42 members have an active voting right (see: https://wiki.edugain.org/EduGAIN_Votes ). 

This will be a vote by simple majority from today (Monday 31 July 2017) until Tuesday 14th August 2017. 

The vote can end early if 22 votes in the affirmative are received before the deadline from the 42 active voting members. Otherwise more positive than negative votes are required by the deadline. Note that only one (1) vote is accepted from an eduGAIN participant and the delegate/deputy should determine who votes on behalf of their federation.

Votes cast by members that have been excluded from voting will restore their voting rights for future voting occasions but will not affect the outcome of this vote.

I'll provide an update on the progress of voting (and a reminder) in one (1) week from today.

The OT is responisible for validating and accepting the metadata of these federations if/once their status of member is accepted.
