ACTION ITEMS
(AI) Keith will review some other survey tools and make a recommendation.
(AI) Mark M. will draft a one- or two-paragraph backgrounder to provide
background as to why we’re asking the questions.
(AI) Mark M. will work with AACRAO to refine the population for the survey
and seek permission to use the list.
(AI) Ann will clarify the definitions on the survey and ensure consistency
throughout the survey. Deadline -- July 30.
(AI) Ann will add a question about scale to the survey. Deadline -- July 30.
(AI) Mark S. will fill in these items from the “background” section of the
survey: 1) who is running the survey, 2) who should complete the survey, 3)
privacy statement and result
(AI) By July 30 – the survey will be ready to send to volunteers from AACRAO
Tech to review.
----------
AACRAO Tech
Had good attendance at the tracks. The IdM track did as well as it ever has.
• Need a registrar name on the pre-conference program to draw
functional folks.
• Should nurture relationship with Richard Spencer (UBC) – he is in a
developmental mode with Kuali Student.
• Discussed the survey – there was a lot of discussion about what
identity proofing means. Also a discussion about how sure we are that we are
connecting the physical entity to the digital record.
• Ann reviewed her presentation/slides:
https://spaces.internet2.edu/download/attachments/5259/RemoteProofingv1.pdf
• At the end of the presentation, asked people if they would review the
survey questions for wording.
----------
SURVEY
• Need to take advantage of the opportunity to have the folks from
AACRAO Tech pilot the survey.
• Lead from Molly McGill (WICHE) on an organization called
Instructional Technology Council (ITC) (www.itcnetwork.org) that focuses on
technology for distance ed. ITC is tied in with many of the regional
accrediting bodies, who are looking for recommendations on what to do in the
remote proofing area. Molly might have a group of campuses that could do some
survey testing.
• ITC did a distance education survey (mostly with community colleges)
– see
http://www.itcnetwork.org/file.php?file=%2F1%2FITCAnnualSurvey2009Results.pdf
• When we get to a set of practices, it would be good to get LeRoy
Rooker’s impressions in terms of FERPA.
• Next meeting is EDUCAUSE (Oct 12-15) at which we could use the AACRAO
Tech slides (or a portion of them) and we planned on presenting preliminary
results.
• If we provide 2-3 weeks for completion, plus we want at least a week
or two for analysis. That means the survey needs to be out by the first week
in September.
• Working back from that – we need to make sure we have the right
definitions and the use of terms is consistent across the survey. We have
four people who volunteered to provide feedback.
• Need to determine a survey tool – it could be Internet2’s
SurveyMonkey account. (AI) Keith said he would like to review some other
survey tools and make a recommendation.
• We need to write up a backgrounder (along the lines of the AACRAO
Tech presentation) to serve as a brief contextual background as to why we’re
asking the questions. This will have to be brief, perhaps with links to
background information and info from appropriate AACRAO Tech presentations.
(AI) Mark M. will draft this.
• May want to call it “remote student identity” as opposed to “identity
proofing”
• Mark M. will work with AACRAO to refine the population for the survey
and seek permission to use their list.
• Mark S. will fill in these items from the “background” section of the
survey: 1) who is running the survey, 2) who should complete the survey, 3)
privacy statement and result.
