InC-Student: Notes from July 18
-------------------------------------------
- Andrea Beesing, Cornell
- Nancy Krogh, Idaho
- RL Bob Morgan, Washington
- Karen Schultz, Penn State
- Renee Shuey, Penn State
- Ann West, Internet2/EDUCAUSE (scribe)

Notes
---------
- We have two new members:
Mark McConahay, Indiana University
Jeff von Mukwitz-Smith, UConn/AACRAO

- After hearing the persistent plea for practice guidance at the AACRAO Tech Conference and the IdM Workshop, we discussed whether this group would be interested in assembling some early recommendations for Student Services. The participants on the call (see short notes to follow) were in very much in favor. Nancy pointed out that the IdM issues are vast and acute, but that we should focus on scoping this work to the federated space. She also added that we might include campus IdM practices that are prerequisites for federating.
Possible topics include:
- Attribute Release
- Practices and Standards for Roles
- Resource lists: What standard practices are out there already?
- What's needed for different LoAs and InCommon Silver?
- What do campuses need to do to prepare for federating?
- Best practices for dealing with opportunities with federations
- Loose Affiliates in the context of Levels of Assurance

We will discuss this in more detail on the next call Friday July 25.

- Internet2 and EDUCAUSE sponsor a series of IdM workshops called CAMPs (Campus Architecture and Middleware Planning). Our next one is Feb 4-6 in Tempe AZ, and we've been talking with AACRAO about the topic of IdM and Student Services as a follow up to the IdM Workshop. Typically, CAMPS cover emerging or established practices in the IdM and related fields and feature case studies and discussion breakout sessions. Current thoughts all around are very positive, but we're still working through the details. Stay tuned.
