InCommon Operations will release an updated version of the InCommon Federation Manager, v5.3.1 on Tuesday 10/6. This release prepends a ‘mailto:’ string to all email contact values in that entity descriptor, which complies with the eduGAIN SAML profile. If you happen to be editing an entity descriptor at the time of the update, it will remain un-submitted and you can edit/submit it at any time.
The bulk update will not result in email notifications upon submission or publication of each modified entity descriptor, in order to avoid a large number of emails affecting site administrators. After the subsequent signing of the metadata post-deployment, most InCommon-registered entity descriptors in the metadata aggregate will carry the ‘mailto:’ scheme in their contacts.
Submission of each entity descriptor may result in some minor shifting of formatting and/or whitespace, but nothing more consequential than the ‘mailto:’ string will be introduced into each record.
Since the majority of entity descriptors published in InCommon metadata already carry this change (all other global federation operators have used the ‘mailto:’ scheme in contacts in metadata for years), there should be little to no impact on InCommon participants’ use of these elements.
All contacts on entity descriptors not in an editing state will be updated accordingly:<ContactPerson contactType="other" remd:contactType="http://refeds.org/metadata/contactType/security"> <GivenName>Example User</GivenName> <EmailAddress>mailto:</EmailAddress> </ContactPerson>
Best Regards,
