Tod et al,
Here is what John Law at Proquest said regarding a written report on
the user study he did:
"I'll be publishing a paper by mid-June but I don't have
anything in hand. However, there is the webinar this Thursday afternoon
that I sent information about earlier (see attached). I hope the
session is recorded for later viewing but I don't know for certain.
Also, we will be presenting the study findings at ALA Annual in DC.

Tod,
That was me that mentioned the Proquest study. I've sent an email to
John Law at Proquest asking for a summary of the study. As luck would
have it, he is doing a Webcast this Thursday about the study.
Registration details below.

The following message has been sent to you from the "Library Online

Steven Bell and John Shank, co-founders of the Blended Librarians Online
Learning Community, and their guest John Law, Director, Strategic
Alliances & Platform Management ProQuest CSA invite you to join the
next
Blended Librarian community event, "Observing Student Researchers in
their Native Habitat" On Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 3 pm. EST.
Event Description:
Understanding how students in real world situations go about conducting
research is essential to ensuring that library resources are best
positioned to meet their needs. This presentation will reveal key
findings of an ethnographic study observing students in the context of
performing research for actual course assignments.
The presentation will include a brief review of study methods and select
video clips.
Learn how users begin their research, how they approach a research task,
and how they interact with electronic resources. Learn how and when
researchers turn to web search engines. Learn what access points to the
library are most used and what's important to make them useful.
Please note that this event will be using previously recorded video
clips which require the QuickTime player. Click the link below to get
QuickTime.

There
was mention on the Friday conference call of a
ProQuest study showing that students didn't understand proxying and
were being driven to non-licensed resources. Could someone post a
citation or link to that study?
