OIDC Survey Working Group

Dear Colleagues,

The Charter for the OIDC-OAuth2 Deployment Working Group, sponsored by 
the InCommon Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), has now been through 
the community review process, and its now time to actually kick off the 
work process.

A recent survey confirmed that there is already substantial use of the 
OIDC/OAuth2 protocols by campuses. However, using these protocols is 
substantially “less mature” in the higher education environment than the 
SAML protocols that have been used for the last fifteen years. This 
working group will bring together current users to develop and propose 
standard deployment practices in order to improve the likelihood of 
interoperation “just working”. Some of this work has already begun under 
REFEDS sponsorship. Where possible, some of this work will be done by 
"work(ing) within existing efforts".

A number of people have already joined the email list. Early next week 
an email will be sent to that list to find a time for regular conference 
calls for the group. The first order of business for the group will be 
to identify a chair and co-chair.
