Hi Mark,

I can provide an update for you and will look to others to augment as 
necessary.

- The IdP software is functional and backend IdM systems/LDAP directory will 
be built next week. Arnie and crew had a call with Hitachi this week and they 
will be offering a no-obligation donation to use their user account 
management software as a start and do some UI development for us. This will 
provide us with the basic functionality needed for the CommIT service. Again 
this is only for the prototype and my have no bearing on the final production 
service.  

- CollegeBoard has very graciously offered to allow their branding used on a 
dummy service. We are thrilled to have such an important partner offer to 
participate in this way. If there are others who would like us to mock up a 
few pages for them, please let us know.

- We're also talking with several universities about putting up a demo 
service that the CommIT accounts can access. I don't have a taker here yet, 
but hope to have one soon. We're open to vendor services too, of course. If 
anyone on the list would like to participate in a call to talk about what's 
involved, just let me know. Again the target is to have several services for 
the dummy CommIT users to access by Oct 12. The CommIT federated authn 
service isn't terribly sexy without good stuff to access. ;)

- We'll be presenting at the Internet2 Member Meeting next week and getting a 
feel for the CIO interest in this project. Early returns indicate that it's 
pretty high, but stay tuned.

- We'll also be doing presentations at the PESC meeting (planned prototype 
demo so you don't want to miss that) and EDUCAUSE meeting as well as an 
AACRAO webinar with PSU and LeRoy Rooker of FERPA fame.

All in all, quite a lot is going on and hope you all can participate as much 
as you're able. We understand that it's a busy fall for everyone, but it 
takes effort to implement such a forward looking project. And many hands make 
quick work!
