Remote Proofing Survey Articles

Ann mentioned that there have been discussions about better ways of handling identity proofing. She reported on a NERCOMP session last week presented by Mark Diadoti from Burton, who outlined three possibilities: 1) knowledge-based (sounds like the typical set password reset questions), 2) dynamic questions (this sounds like the Axiom service – with a database of hundreds of questions, 3) out-of-band proofing, using a cell phone.

The group then discussed the article about the remote proofing survey and decided to splint it into two pieces – one on the survey itself and the other on the background behind identity proofing and what a campus needs to do. It would be good to have some information from someone who can speak authoritatively on legal issues, perhaps Beth Cade or Tracy Mitrano.

We want to be sure not to put out any solutions that aren’t viable. Also, that there are issues to address at institutions – that the survey demonstrates that some are asserting they have good identity proofing and they are wrong.

• July 29 is the final, final draft deadline
• Mark will write the survey section, including the intro and conclusion 
• Brendan will draft thoughts on the “theory” article and iterate with Ann 
• Karen Hanson previously said she would do some writing and will be asked to write the “why this is important” part. 
• First drafts are due July 6 – either put them in the wiki (https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/InCCollaborate/InC-Student+Services+Group) or send them to Dean ().
