-  Possible New Initiative: Ease the Transition

Campuses give out thousands of accounts to prospects, many of whom will never 
attend the school. In addition, admits are using these self-asserted, low 
level of assurance accounts to view their sensitive financial aid 
information. What can we do to help address the prospect's ease of use and 
the campus's account management and security concerns? 

The PESC EA2 Committee has started up a pilot project with CollegeBoard and 
ACT technical folks to assemble use cases and a value proposition for their 
management to join InCommon and offer an identity provider for prospects. The 
potential students would then log into ACT/CB to interact with the campuses 
to which they have chosen to apply. One set of credentials for the student 
and the campus enjoys the benefit of reduced account management and of having 
an IdP that has identity proofed their users.

This is one scenario but there are many other ways of addresses the above 
goals. Several of us will be meeting with the incoming AACRAO Board Chair (Hi 
Jeff!) and VP of Technology to talk about a collaboration with PESC and 
InCommon (and maybe others) to work on this problem.

1) Is this a worthwhile thing to pursue? Or are there other challenges you 
think would be more timely?
2) If this is a good meaty problem, what are the use cases that need 
addressing most urgently?
3) Other comments or ideas or folks or organizations we should include?
