Jack Suess
Jack Suess (UMBC), vice-chair of InCommon, met with the InC Student group,
listing three agenda items:
1) which vendors should we try to recruit to InCommon?
2) How do we communicate to existing InC participants about the service
providers already in place (e.g. National Student Clearinghouse, Alcohol.edu)
3) Would there be interest in the College Board (he has had some
discussions with them)?
Ideas
- USC is working with Aetna to federated the student health insurance
program
- Communicate with current SPs and ask which of their current clients
are in InCommon (and if they federate) and see they would be interested in
talking with non-InCommon customers about federating.
- Should do a survey (or surveys) of participants to determine which
vendors they would like to see federate and whether they would work with a
group to make that happen (as the library group has done).
- UMBC is also talking to CashNet, as well as an outsourced parking
solution and a company that does outsourced transcripts.
- We (i.e. InCommon) has tried creating a registry, which doesn’t seem
to work. What has worked is getting groups – like the librarians – involved.
The InC Student group would be a good place to start to identify/approach
vendors, since this group includes the business owners of the service(s)
The consensus was that using the full InC-Student group would be a good start
to identify the priority targets (as opposed to, say, doing a survey).
