Title/abstract:
Privacy and Identity: Working with External Service Partners 

More and more corporate services such as enrollment verification,
transcript delivery, and undergraduate-application providers are
becoming available to help institutions serve their students more
effectively. In the past, campuses would frequently upload a large file
of student identity data to the service provider to generate separate
accounts, accessed by yet another userid and password pair. With
federated identity, campuses can leverage investments in local identity
management systems to access these external resources and information.
In this model, students experience single sign-on ease of use, and the
campus retains the identity data and releases only what's necessary for
the student to access the external service.

Presenters will explain federated identity and why it's important to the
Registrar and Admissions Officer. They will also provide overviews of
two new national collaboration efforts among campus Registrars and IT
staff.
