InCommon Federation Discussions About Online Student Services

All,

In talking with others about the AACRAO Technology Conference (ATC)
(http://www.aacrao.org/tech07/), I thought it might be worthwhile to
share the bigger picture of the IdM sessions that will be featured at
the conference (and our possible participation), along with the list of
vendors to get our discussion going about our possible f2f meeting
there. Below are a few updates on those conversations and questions for
the group.

ATC Sessions

- I spoke to David and John Krienke (InCommon Manager) after the meeting
with the NSC, and later with Jeff von Munkwitz-Smith (ATC program chair)
and Nancy (vice-chair of the AACRAO Information Systems and Technology
Committee). We would like to repurpose the InCommon track presentation
to possibly do an intro to federated identity management and include
information about our InCommon-Student group. We could also include a
short discussion of the PESC EA2 Task Force
http://www.pesc.org/workgroups/ea2_task_force/. 

Thoughts? 

Jeff will be finalizing the ATC program soon, so any ideas about this
would be helpful. This session is scheduled for Monday 1:30 to 2:45. 
 
- Jeff has saved another IdM-related slot on Monday from 8:00 to 9:15.
Nancy and I thought this might be good spot for a beginning session on
IdM that would provide the basics for attending the InCommon/Federation
(described above) session scheduled for later in the day. 

Thoughts about this?

- There's also an identity management roundtable scheduled late on
Monday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. to wrap up any remaining questions and
explore more issues. 

- We've already scheduled preconference seminar covering an introduction
to identity management (IdM) topics that will be led by Karen Hanson and
Jim Phelps of University of Wisconsin-Madison. Karen works with Joanne
Berg in the registrar's office and Jim is a Senior Infrastructure
Architect in IT. This session is scheduled for Sunday from 8-11:30.

Vendor Meetings

We've also discussed scheduling a meeting with a number of vendors at
the ATC. To get us started thinking in that direction, I looked up the
exhibitor lists on their meeting site and included them below: 

- The 2006 ATC vendor list is located at

and might provide a starting point of who might be there this year.

Thoughts about having a side meeting at the ATC?
