Title: Re: [InC-Student] NSC Meeting: F2f and Dial-in coordinate
Folks, sorry for this very last minute suggestions -- been
traveling, too much, then occupied with Virgina Tech related matter
here.
Daniel Boehmer, President and Doug Falk, CIO of the NSC will be
present.
I've shared links to several Shibboleth and In-Common Federated
IdM websites:
http://www.internet2.edu/
http://shibboleth.internet2.edu/
http://www.incommonfederation.org/
Possible agenda
1. Who we are -- some introduction to EDUCAUSE and InCommon
and work that Bob and others have been doing on this front.
- Cornell is advancing implementation of these new tools to improve intra-campus (i.e., Ithaca - NYC - Geneva, NY - Doha, Qatar - Washington D.C.; Rome, Italy; Paris, France; Seville, Spain, London, England, and several new locations in Asia - Japan, Hong Kong; South Asia (India) and Southeast Asia (Singapore)), and between institutions where we have cross-institutional research collaborations, shared resources, etc. We will be approaching other vendors -- CommonApp, Law Application Services, Medical School Application Services, Josten's Diploma Services, etc.
2. What is the InCommon Federation and why is it important
to the higher education community?
- The InCommon Brochure provides a brief, succinct explanation, in my opinion
- We can direct more heavily technical conversations with Doug; Dan is a banker but astute about importance of technologies
3. Why it is important for the National Student
Clearinghouse and other business entities to be part of the
Federation?
- Data security is high priority
- Reduce complexities and time to establish individualized security relationships, for schools and vendors
- Etc., etc. the 'Drivers' from the IdM Summit might be shared
Anyways, just some ideas to consider.
