Call for Participation: SIRTFI Exercise Working Group
Response requested by Monday, November 29, 2021

 

InCommon recently adopted SIRTFI as part of the InCommon Baseline Expectations. To further increase trust among federation participants, InCommon is planning a graduated series of cyber security exercises to practice using the SIRTFI framework. The goal is to help federation members familiarize themselves with security incident response procedures in federated scenarios. The exercises are intended to start simple and gradually add further elements of incident response.
 

Invitation to participate in the SIRTFI Exercise Working Group

InCommon is seeking a broad spectrum of the international research and education community to join the SIRTFI Exercise Working Group. We seek perspectives from people and organizations with different responsibilities for and perspectives on security in research and education. This group will plan and conduct the exercises and report on lessons learned to the community. The group will meet bi-weekly.

Expected working group deliverables

The Working Group is sponsored by the InCommon Community Trust and Assurance Board (CTAB). Deliverables include the following:

 

• By Spring 2022, produce a detailed exercise plan with one or more exercises to be carried out in calendar year 2022.
• With CTAB agreement, conduct the first exercise in early Summer 2022; report on lessons learned.
• With CTAB agreement, conduct additional exercises throughout the remainder of 2022; report on lessons learned.

 

Time frame

The Working Group organizational meeting will be in mid-December or early January. The first exercises are tentatively targeted for early Summer 2022, with possible subsequent exercises to be held throughout the remainder of 2022.

 

How do I participate in the working group?

To participate, send an email expressing interest to by Monday, November 29, 2021. Please include your name, organization, and email address.

We will poll those who respond to find a suitable meeting time for the organizing session.
