To all InCommon participants,
We are excited to announce that the InCommon Metadata Distribution Service 2.0 (aka “Metadata Query”) Production Release Candidate is now available to all participants. The Release Candidate significantly improves identity provider (IdP) and service provider (SP) memory usage and system startup time by allowing entities to retrieve individual metadata as-needed at runtime. Federation IdPs and SPs no longer need to pre-load thousands of federation metadata records at system startup. Entities wishing to continue consuming metadata aggregates can still do so at a new metadata aggregate endpoint capable of producing configurable, dynamically generated metadata aggregates.
InCommon Metadata Distribution Service 2.0 implements the Metadata Query Protocol (MDQ; https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-young-md-query/). We’ll be holding a webinar on this updated service on July 10th at 2PM ET/11AM PT. Please visit the blog post at https://www.incommon.org/news/incommon-forum-webinar-rolling-out-a-new-metadata-service/ for additional details.
To begin using InCommon Metadata Service 2.0 Release Candidate today, please refer to the updated service documentation (https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/display/MDQ).
The existing legacy InCommon metadata aggregate will continue to be available while the community migrate to adopt the new service. We will start to work with you to retire the old service at an later date.

Thank you,
Albert Wu
