FYI: Delay

We're in a holding pattern on deployment of the new underlying platform as described 10 days ago. The DIFF has been clean, which is a very good indicator that no changes will occur to metadata publishing.

Reason for Delay:
We've run into an issue with underlying libraries that we are working out. Our production roll-over will be delayed until we sort out the issue and determine feasibility of going live. We'll know more by midday (EDT). Meantime, the current production system is fine and stable.

This is the first announcement to inc-ops-notifications. We'll use this email
list to announce testing periods and/or any other important or urgent
notification needs to the participant community.

------------
NOTICE
------------

An upgrade to the metadata generation platform and underlying database
structure
is planned for April 12th. We will conduct a testing period from April 2nd
through 11th and will produce a metadata-diff, comparing the upgraded platform
("test") and the current platform ("prod"). The metadata-diff email list is
opt-in and open to all. Instructions for joining are here:
http://www.incommonfederation.org/contacts.cfm

REASON: We are upgrading the system to allow participants to submit XML
metadata
directly to InCommon. In advance of this functionality, we are rolling out the
system carefully, in phases. Phase I is an upgrade to the underlying platform
and database that manages the formation and the federation metadata for
signing.
Phase II and III will involve testing of the actual XML submissions and
interface.

A public page detailing the processes for this upgrade is available here:
https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/InCCollaborate/Direct+XML+Submissions

Linked to from our InCommon Operations Priorities page:
https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/InCCollaborate/Priorities

This change to the platform modifies the system that manages the creation of
InCommon participant metadata. As such, we are following our Metadata
Generation
Change Management Policy:
https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/InCCollaborate/Metadata+Change+Management

Open discussion about any issues is welcome on the incommon-participants
email list.
