Subject: State of the pilot and future steps (discussion topics for this week and future meetings)
Hi all -
Thanks to Chicago and Washington for getting their case studies written up and posted -- Penn, Cornell and Maryland, if you can get yours posted in the next week (by 9/12), that would be great.
Per the minutes from 7/25, I'd like to identify short term and final goals for this group. Specifically, I'd like to plot this out in such a way that we can summarize the current state of the pilot, identify goals for the final stretch, include additional campuses as appropriate, actively pilot some of these scenarios and come out with the best practices document by next June. How's that for ambitious?
Currently, it seems that we have the user cases and available technologies enumerated, but haven't piloted broadly enough to feel confident in recommending best practices. We have identified a number of issues that vendors should consider when implementing Shibboleth, as well as some features for Shibboleth that would make it more usable for libraries.
I've summarized information from the case studies as well as the earlier survey at https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/inclibrary/InCommon+Library+Service s+Working+Group, under Project Status.
For this Friday's (9/5) meeting, I'd like to discuss future goals and timelines. Ideas are posted at:
- Short term goals: https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/inclibrary/Project+Status+-+October +2008
- Long term goals: https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/inclibrary/Project+Status+-+June+20 09
If we have time at Friday's meeting, we'll start talking about the following documents - otherwise we can conduct the discussion on email:
- Why should I: https://spaces.internet2.edu/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=11868
- SP Functionality requests: https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/inclibrary/SP+Functionality+Request s
- Shibboleth Functionality requests: https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/inclibrary/Shibboleth+Functionality +Requests
For the Friday meeting on 9/19, I'd like to talk use case scenarios and pilot test strategy: https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/inclibrary/Pilot+Test+Strategy
I'll be sending out the 9/5 agenda shortly.
Thanks!
Holly
