Holly,

Thanks for setting up the lunch and forwarding the meet and greet info. I'll be able to make lunch on Saturday, but unfortunately, I can't get to the EZProxy/Shib event.

EZproxy and Shibboleth Users Meet And Greet

-----------------------------------------------------------

When: Sunday June 29, 4pm-5:30pm

Where: Hilton Anaheim, Avilia room

Join Don Hamparian, Portfolio Manager, WorldCat Grid Services and Holly Eggleston, Assistant Head of Acquisitions at the UC San Diego libraries and acting chair of the InCommon Library/Shibboleth Pilot for a meet and greet for administrators and users of EZproxy and Shibboleth.

EZproxy helps provide users with remote access to Web-based licensed content offered by libraries. It is middleware that authenticates library users against local authentication systems and provides remote access to licensed content based on the user’s authorization.

Shibboleth is a standards based, open source software package for web single sign-on across or within organizational boundaries. It allows sites to make informed authorization decisions for individual access of protected online resources in a privacy-preserving manner. Shibboleth is in adoption or production at many academic institutions across North America and Europe, and can be used to provide authentication services to EZProxy.

The InCommon Library/Shibboleth Pilot is a pilot consisting of six institutions: Cornell University, Penn State, UC San Diego, The University of Chicago, University of Maryland,  and The University of Washington. The project was started in 2007 to explore the issues in implementing access to library services and electronic resources using Shibboleth authentication.

We will have a short status presentation on these initiatives and spend the remainder of our time together in Q&A and discussion. See you there!

Thanks!

Holly
