A. Is this pilot configuration being used by patrons (in a production
or real-world beta capacity)?
ILLiad and EZproxy are in production. RefWorks is ready to roll into production at next opportunity.
B. What are your main unresolved issues with this configuration?
Still haven't actually worked out session initiators with any providers, and waiting on a production release of EZproxy with that capability.
Still haven't dealt with authenticating patron access workstations in the library ala UWash, for example.
C. What additional Shibboleth functionality could make this better?
For where we're at now, it's fine. Looking ahead a bit, there might be two areas in which it could help. One is for end-user consent to release attributes at the moment they approach a service provider. The need for this isn't strong as yet (for us), and might not materialize as a leading need, but it could well, depending on the range of SPs we ultimately engage with and their range of practice.
The other need is only partially shibboleth's to meet, and partially the industry and end-users. It's for common use of a push model. Perhaps the dominant form this will take in the libsvcs world is end-user presenting a university affiliation with card space. I wonder if ubiquitous-push will deal with situations like Google Scholar from off-campus that AdamC raised. But there are many, many unknowns (to me) in this general scenario.
D. What supplementary solutions could make this better?
dunno
E. If you are using a different configuration for production, what
are the outstanding issues with your current production system and do
you think that shibboleth and the hybrid environment solution(s)
proposed so far could resolve these issues?
n/a
