Holly,

Thanks for the clarification.

I am still not in agreement that we should be mentioning mod_auth_location as a solution, especially in the context of user need for personalized logins at public machines.  In fact, I think that the ONLY problem with mod_auth_location is that it DOES NOT adequately address the users' need for personalized logins at on-campus machines.  In order for users to have a personal login at on-campus machines, they must know to login BEFORE accessing any shibbed services, otherwise it is too late.

I am sorry to keep harping on this issue, but I don't think mod_auth_location is a good enough solution, without the ability to somehow override the generic, location-based authentication at any point in the session.

If there is a work-around for the issue that I note above, I would be excited to hear it, because that would really add a lot of value to what we are trying to accomplish as a group.

I am sorry to keep arguing this point with regards to your upcoming presentation.  Maybe this does not need to be worked out before your presentation.

I think this presentation is less best practices/how-to and is more proof of concept :  I don’t think we’re recommending explicit solutions, but we do want to mention the issues we’ve identified, as well as possible solutions that have been tried so far. The walkin scenario should hit a number of scenarios and issues (both general and walkin specific), and mod_auth_location can be mentioned as a solution in the context of user need for personalized logins at public machines.

Sorry I was not on the call last week, on vacation.

I have been looking at Dean's notes from the last call and at Holly's outline.  It looks really good.

I do have one question though.  I am unclear where the UW walk-up scenario fits in to the presentation.  Are we promoting mod_auth_location as part of the solution?  or recommending it to our audience?
