I notice that Atlas Systems has
joined InCommon - they are not in the Registry of Resources –
has anyone been in touch? Our Library is interested in
expanding access management around Ares – the Atlas electronic reserves –
so I’m interested in Atlas’ approach to federation. How directly
is Atlas involved in Shibbolizing ILLiad? From the InCommon newsletter: About Atlas Systems ....Kent _ From: David Kennedy
[mailto:] Just
thought I would recap some of the interactions I've had with vendors
lately, since most have been offline. BioOne
(Foster started conversation with them a while back) - they are in the process
of joining InCommon Thomson
Reuters (Adam started conversation with them a while back) - they are in
the process of joining InCommon Alexander
Street Press - initial contact letter sent, no response, will follow up Cambridge
University Press - exchange with Heather Otrando and Andrea Cerniachiri. Heather
will likely be the point person for Cambridge and InCommon. Scheduled a
phone call for Feb 8th. American
Chemical Society - a couple of back and forth emails, talked today with Steve
Hensen, high up in sales. They are just getting started with Shib in the
UK. Next phase would be US and InCommon. Their new web platform
supports shib, but they have concerns (mainly security) because to them this is
a new technology. He will discuss internally, will touch base again
mid-february. Springer/MetaPress
- Ulrike Lengwenat is point person. They are doing shib with UK and
Japan, and some other european federations. As I understand, their
platform in US, MetaPress, is different platform, that they are working on
Shibbolizing. Internal conversations to ensue to figure out next steps,
but looking good so far. That's
all for now. Have
a pleasant weekend Dave ----- |
