I am writing because, in the survey that you recently took for the
InCommon Library Services Collaboration, you indicated for at least one of
the vendors in our list that you would be willing to sign a letter asking
that vendor to federate. Our group intends to start sending these
invitation letters (actually emails) to vendors on or around January 15th.
I have attached a draft of the email that will be sent.

Based on your survey response, we will be putting your name and
institution on the bottom of the email unless you tell me differently. For
any given vendor, your name and institution will appear alongside between
10 and 20 other institutions, based on survey responses. And you will be
copied on correspondence. Note that the invitation letter does not
obligate you to do anything, but we believe that your support will help
vendors see the value in joining InCommon.

I would like to personally thank you for joining together with other
universities in this effort and participating to benefit the entire
InCommon community.
Please let me, or the inc-lib-vendor group, know if you have any questions
or concerns. Also, we will leave time at the end of the Jan 15th webinar
for questions and discussion.

Thank you
Dave Kennedy

I am writing you on behalf of ______ University and the other universities
listed at the end of this email. We are all committed to the concept of
federated identity management and federated access to licensed resources.
Hence, we have implemented the Shibboleth technology at our respective
institutions (which have all also joined the InCommon federation).

We have noticed that you have implemented Shibboleth/SAML within your product
line, and are using the technology to provide federated access to your
services within the UK Access Management Federation. We, collectively, would
like to invite you to also join the InCommon federation so that we, as well,
will be able to federate with you. You provide valuable services to our user
communities, and we would like to begin integrating those services with the
single sign on infrastructures we have invested in at our respective
institutions.

______ University would like to be your sponsor for membership into InCommon
and help facilitate the process. We can provide guidance in terms of
federation policies and best practices. We also have a willing group of
universities that should be able to help with testing and implementation, and
we can help coordinate that as well.

If you are interested, we can set up a conference call to discuss some of the
details and initiate the process.

Thank you,
