It's actually Cardiff University that is doing the JISC study.

 

My previous email referenced University of Leeds in error - U of L has a biotech research group interested in using Shibboleth for high security applications with sites in Canada!

(For interest of those in the UK who run service providers.)

Dear all, (apologies for any cross posting)

This email is a request for the participation of organisations who manage
e-resources with a federated login option.

Participation will involve taking part in a day-long workshop aimed at
gathering an understanding of the views of organisations who provide
e-resources with regards discovery in a federated world. The workshop is
to take place on June 23rd 2009, between 10AM and 4PM, at Cardiff
University (in Cardiff, UK), and is open to all types of relevant
organisations - from small to large commercial publishers, academic
institutions hosting federated resources, etc. Reasonable travel expenses
will be reimbursed for participants.

This is a part of a JISC sponsored study, run by Cardiff University,
looking into the provision of appropriate user interfaces to discovery in
a federated world - in short, looking at the best way to design a website
so that users can successfully find a "login" link, be presented with a
set of possible institutions so that they can choose where they are from,
and start the federated login process. The project aims to produce solid
guidance on how to best accomplish this, in terms of design, terminology,
whether to use a built-in WAYF service or a federation WAYF service, etc.

The main aim of the workshop is to understand and record views from
publishers of e-resources around their thoughts on discovery - including
why they have implemented discovery as they already have, what constraints

they work under when designing their services, and so forth.

Benefits of attending the workshop will be twofold:
* Firstly, attendees will be helping to influence the guidance which will
be produced for the benefit of all
* Secondly, attendees may gain thoughts and ideas on how to better improve

the interface to their resources.

12th June to register your interest. If you are intending on claiming
travel expenses, please provide an estimate of the amount to be claimed
for planning purposes.
