Hi -- this question likely fits into the "silly newbie SP questions", but I'll
ask it anyway...

When we registered to become an SP, our federation insisted that we update our
metadata to include mdui:DisplayName, mentioning that this is a requirement. 
We
happily made this simple update, and then carried this on to what we thought
was a logical conclusion - mdui:DisplayName is the field to be used, so that 
is
the one we should be using for our discovery service for individual sign on.
(In fact, the default setting for the Shibboleth SP disco feed is to pull
DisplayName; it does not look for display names in the legacy format)

Alas, I'm sure you know how this story ends - with this decision and default
setting we inadvertently left out hundreds of institutions that still only use
the older style md:OrganizationDisplayName. Of course we're getting the angry
calls now from IdPs that are calling foul for our leaving them out for ORCID
sign in.

So, my question... Is mdui:DisplayName required? and if the answer is "not 
yet"
when does this requirement take effect? It also would be really helpful to
understand the underlying complexities. What are some of the reasons why 
institutions haven't updated their metadata?

I have a file with the list of institutions still only in the old format if
that is helpful. If the issue is mainly one of visibility and communication
about the issue, I'm happy to help on that front. We can just as easily accept
the legacy format, but we'd like to take the route most recommended by this
community. Thanks for your input!
