IAM Online May 11: InCommon TAC Work Plan - Your Feedback and Ideas Needed
We’re looking for your input and comments! The InCommon Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) continues to develop its work plan, including technical priorities for InCommon. Some of the initiatives include a working group to examine the use of per-entity metadata, and a move to raise the bar on interoperability and security. The May IAM Online (May 11 at 2 pm ET) will provide a timely opportunity to provide feedback.
First TIER Release Available
The Internet2 community has released the first version of software and practices under the TIER (Trust and Identity in Education and Research) program. This release provides some new functionality, but its main purpose is to demonstrate the direction for the TIER Program and receive community feedback.
New Metadata Signing Process Deployed
On March 21, an issue with eduGAIN metadata upstream caused the InCommon metadata signing process to fail. Subsequently, on May 2, InCommon Operations deployed an enhanced metadata import and signing process that prevents future failures. The new strategy falls back on a cached copy of the eduGAIN metadata aggregate, should the import of eduGAIN metadata fail for any reason.
Multifactor Authentication Documents Open for Comment
The MFA Interoperability Profile Working Group seeks community comment on several documents. The comment period is open through May 16. The documents include the working group’s final report, MFA profiles, and usage guidance.
Steering and Technical Advisory Committee Minutes
A reminder that the minutes of the InCommon Steering Committee and the InCommon Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) are available on the InCommon Collaborate wiki.
InCommon Shibboleth Installation Workshops
The next  InCommon Shibboleth Installation Workshops, focusing on the installation of Identity Provider v3, will take place May 19-20 in Chicago, and June 23-24 in Rochester, New York.
New InCommon Participants
As of May 1, InCommon has 846 participants taking advantage of one or more InCommon services. There are now 571 higher education, 31 research organization, and 245 sponsored partner participants. New InCommon Certificate Service Subscribers
As of May 1, 364 organizations subscribe to the InCommon Certificate Service, which provides unlimited certificates for all domains owned by a university at one annual fee. New subscribers during April included: Mott Community College Space Telescope Science Institute University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
Duo Security Subscribers
As of May 1, 91 organizations subscribe to the Duo Security multifactor authentication service offered through InCommon. New subscribers during April included: Brandeis University Broad Institute DePauw University Internet2 University of California-San Diego
