Are Passwords Passé? Deployment Strategies for Multi-Factor Authentication - Director's Cut

You may have heard them at Educause, but David Walker and Mike Grady return on Wednesday, December 10 (2 pm ET) for a special appearance at IAM Online. They'll cover the work of the Multifactor Cohortium, with more than 40 institutions evaluating multifactor authentication alternatives (phone, certificates, and hardware-based tokens) to mitigate risks and increase security. InCommon Reaches 700 Participants

InCommon has welcomed its 700th participant (up from 586 at the beginning of the year)! Other milestones recently achieved:

  • InCommon has welcomed its 200th Sponsored Partner, DocuSign. Read more.
  • The Research & Scholarship Category has registered its 100th identity provider. See all R&S IdPs and SPs.
  • Now, 500 InCommon organizations have at least one entity registered in metadata. See the list.

Technology Exchange Highlights

Harvard University Achieves Bronze Assurance

Harvard University has become certified for the InCommon Bronze Identity Assurance Profile under the InCommon Assurance Program. The Assurance Program allows Identity Providers to demonstrate security and trust through the use of standards-based identity practices. Read more.

nanoHUB New Research & Scholarship Service Provider

An important new service provider, nanoHUB, has been added to the Research & Scholarship Category. nanoHUB.org is the premier place for computational nanotechnology research, education, and collaboration. The site hosts a rapidly growing collection of simulation programs for nanoscale phenomena that run in the cloud and are accessible through a web browser.

Grouper Releases Version 2.2.1

Grouper version 2.2.1 has been released, featuring several fixes and enhancements from 2.2.0. Grouper enables project managers, departments, institutions and end users to create and manage institutional and personal groups, roles and permissions. See an introduction to Grouper.

Duo Security Multifactor Authentication Site License

InCommon Multifactor AuthenticationInCommon and Duo Security offer two affordable pricing models for mobile-based second-factor authentication, including campus site licenses that can cover faculty/staff, student, medical centers, or all of the above. To date, 33 campuses subscribe to the site license and many more are piloting the program using the a la carte option. This month's new site license subscribers:
