Four Service Providers Approved for Research & Scholarship Category
InCommon's
Research & Scholarship (R&S) Category now
includes 21 services with the addition of these new services: the LARPP (Lifestyles of the Attribute Rich and Privacy Preserved) wiki and the LARPP registry, and the Gravitational Wave Astronomy Community wiki and the Gravitational Wave Astronomy Community
listserv.
R&S greatly simplifies the lives of campus researchers by providing a minimal set of attributes to an entire category of service providers.
Virtual organizations and collaborative services no longer need to negotiate with every identity provider. There are
81 identity providers that have agreed to release the R&S attributes to the entire category.
Two service provider owners, Tom Mitchell (GENI) and Walt Wells (Open Cloud Consortium) have played a key role in recruiting identity providers for the R&S category. In concert with InCommon, they contact an IdP each time a user cannot access their service
to explain the R&S program.
