U.S. Government Approves New Assurance Profiles
Revisions Include Easier Path to Bronze
The revised InCommon Assurance Program specification documents have been approved by the U.S. government and include a much easier path toward Bronze certification. Among other changes, the new revision (version 1.2) removes the requirement of an audit for InCommon Bronze.
Virginia Tech Publishes Assurance Case Study
Virginia Tech has published an extensive case study, documenting its experience in qualifying for the InCommon Bronze and Silver assurance profiles. The document includes information about the stakeholders engaged during the process, a gap analysis, and specific steps taken to address various functional areas.
New Members Appointed to Assurance Advisory Committee
InCommon Steering has appointed three new members to the Assurance Advisory Committee: Debbie Bucci, Trisha Craig, and Doug Falk. The AAC oversees the InCommon Assurance Program.
Online Trust Alliance Publishes Best Practices Document
The Online Trust Alliance has published a white paper entitled, "Enhancing Trust and the Integrity of SSL: Certification Authority Best Practices." [PDF] Joe St Sauver, University of Oregon and manager of InCommon's certificate and multifactor programs, contributed to the report.
Weak Keys (Almost) Eradicated from Metadata
Thanks to an extensive nine-month campaign by InCommon operations staff, with significant help and cooperation from the community, almost every weak key (1048-bit) has been removed from InCommon metadata. The number of weak keys dropped from 149 on June 1, 2012, to just a handful today.
