Duo Security and Internet2 have announced new pricing to make it easier and more affordable for campuses to get started with easy-to-use, two-factor authentication technology. The special pricing for Duo Security’s service is only available to qualifying InCommon participants and Internet2 university members as part of the Internet2 NET+ program.

With the new pricing, any qualifying InCommon participant can enroll as few as 500 users in Duo’s phone-based, two-factor authentication service for just $5 per user per year. There are no contracts or special agreements, and Duo offers online account set-up and payment by credit card or purchase order.

“Duo Security makes two-factor authentication usable and affordable for organizations of any size,” said Dug Song, CEO, Duo Security. “Our new Internet2 pricing makes it even easier for higher education and research organizations to get started with Duo without committing to a site license.”

Two-factor authentication prevents account takeover and online fraud by requiring proof of something the user has in addition to something the user knows. Duo Security simplifies the deployment and usability of two-factor authentication by delivering it as a cloud service and by leveraging a device that all users have, a phone. After the user’s password is verified, the Duo service is invoked, which retrieves the user’s consent to login by smartphone app, phone call, or text message.

"We're very appreciative of this special program and substantial discount that Duo is offering to our higher education and research community," said Shelton Waggener, senior vice president, Internet2. "Duo has been a strong advocate for our community and understands the value of multifactor adoption at scale for security-conscious institutions."

This program complements Internet2’s existing partnership with Duo to provide enterprise-wide, site license program that covers faculty and staff, or faculty, staff and students, as well as university-related hospital staff.
