The Privacy and Civil Liberties Dimensions of Identity Management
A critical element of the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in
Cyberspace (NSTIC) is to substantially improve the privacy of online
transactions and support civil liberties like free speech and freedom of
association. The identity ecosystem envisioned by NSTIC seeks to improve
privacy through the use of standards, adherence to principles of fair
information practices, a decentralized system of identity providers, and
fewer databases that collect and store Personally Identifiable Information
(PII).
This webinar will provide an update on NSTIC and efforts to build a
cybersecurity-based identity management vision and strategy that addresses
privacy and civil liberties interests and will discuss the implications for
campus policy and practice.
