IAM Online July 8 – Eduroam in the U.S.
Eduroam (www.eduroamus.org) allows students, researchers and staff from
participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity when visiting
other participating institutions. Authentication is done by the user's home
institution, while authorization is done by the visited network. Eduroam is
widely deployed in Europe, and also in Japan, Australia, and Canada. This IAM
Online (July 8; 1 p.m. EDT) will look at efforts to broaden deployment in the
U.S. For details, go to www.incommon.org/iamonline.

Shibboleth Workshop Series July 28, 29
Have you decided to deploy a web single sign-on (SSO) system and leverage it
to access resources and contracted services in the InCommon Federation? Do
you need training on installation and support? Consider attending one or both
of the sessions in the Shibboleth Workshop Series (two one-day workshops -
one for identity provider and one for service provider), July 28-29 at
Northwestern University. See the details at
www.incommon.org/educate/shibboleth.

Identity Management #5 on the Top-Ten IT Issues List
Identity and Access Management ranks as the fifth largest critical challenge
facing IT leaders, according to an annual survey by EDUCAUSE. Information is
available in the current issue of EDUCAUSE Review
(www.educause.edu/library/ERM1032). Additional information, including
background reading and demographic breakdowns of the survey results, are
available at www.educause.edu/2010IssuesResources

National Student Clearinghouse Federates Student Self-Service
The National Student Clearinghouse has made access to its popular web-based
Student Self-Service application available through InCommon. Participants can
seamlessly provide their students with access to Student Self-Service by
leveraging its existing campus identity management system. See more:

---------------
Federating With EDUCAUSE
Institutions that are InCommon participants and also members of EDUCAUSE can
begin using federated access to a some of the EDUCAUSE web-based resources.
To get started, your institution’s EDUCUASE representative needs to follow a
one-time set-up procedure. More information:

Shibboleth 1.3 Reaches End-of-Life
As announced a number of months ago, Shibboleth v. 1.3 will no longer be
supported. The Shibboleth team strongly encourages sites still using 1.3 to
plan an upgrade to version 2.X as soon as possible.
